A BBC Radio 4 show broadcast on the Queen's 90th birthday, which aired at 6:30 p.m., involved comedians discussing several topics, including the subject "the Queen must have had sex at least four times." 

Panellists at Don't Make Me Laughmade sex jokes about the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh and as a result the BBC was swamped with more than 100 complaints and had to apologise the following day.

Now the BBC Trust has ruled that the comedians' jokes were "personal, intrusive and demeaning."

“Trustees found it hard to imagine circumstances in which this broadcast at any time or on any day would not have given rise to significant unjustified offence,” it said. “Trustees considered this was a serious breach of the editorial guidelines for harm and offence.”

A BBC spokesman said: "We never intended for the scheduling of the programme to coincide with The Queen's birthday and are sorry for the offence caused by its timing and content."

Don't Make Me Laugh, which is created and fronted by David Baddiel, has been moved from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. partly as a result of the broadcast. 

However, some people criticised the ruling.
